Serving Toronto

Landscaping for Toronto homes, from small city lots to larger family yards.

Toronto yards are mostly small, shaded and hard to reach, so a good plan matters more than a big budget. We design for tight access, old trees and neighbours on every side, then build it so it still looks right in ten years.

Built for Toronto yards

Local conditions decide what thrives. Here is what we plan around on every Toronto job.

Small lots, tight access

Many downtown and east-end yards can only be reached through a side gate or the house. We plan material deliveries and wheelbarrow routes before quoting, and choose smaller formats that can be carried in.

Heavy clay and fill

A lot of the city sits on clay, and older lots often have fill and old foundations just under the surface. We test before we dig and build patios on a proper base with drainage worked in.

Mature canopy and shade

Big maples and oaks shade many Toronto yards, so sun-loving plans fail. We plant shade perennials and ferns, and keep digging away from the root zone.

Ravines and slopes

Properties near ravines, creeks or the Scarborough Bluffs have slopes and erosion to think about. We favour deep-rooted native planting and terraces, and check what approvals the lot needs first.

Neighbourhoods we cover in Toronto

We also work across the rest of the city. Not sure your street is in range? Call and ask.

North York

Larger postwar lots, mature trees and long driveways that suit lawn programmes and hedges.

Scarborough

A mix of bungalows and ravine-edge lots, with slopes and erosion to plan around.

Etobicoke

Established streets along the Humber, with big trees and shade gardens.

East York

Compact yards and detached garages, where every square metre of planting counts.

The Annex

Narrow lots, laneway garages and deep shade, so small patios and layered planting.

Roncesvalles

Row-house gardens with side-gate access, planted for privacy and low upkeep.

Leslieville

Tight east-end lots where raised beds, fences and container planting do most of the work.

High Park

Heritage homes beside the park, with old trees and careful root-zone protection.

What Toronto clients say

They turned our backyard into a calm space we actually use. The crew was on time and careful with the details.

Hedges trimmed neatly and everything was hauled away. Scheduling took a week, but worth it.

Permits & local rules

Some work needs sign-off from the municipality or another authority. These are general pointers for Toronto; the official pages below are the source, and rules change.

Trees on private property

Toronto has a private tree by-law, and a permit is needed to injure or remove protected trees. We flag this before any cutting.

Ravines and natural features

Properties in or beside a ravine may fall under a separate protection by-law, and some areas are also regulated by the conservation authority. Check before changing grades or planting on a slope.

Utility locates

Ontario law requires a locate request before most digging. It is free through Ontario Dig Authority (formerly Ontario One Call), and we book it before we dig.

Toronto landscaping FAQ

Can you work in a yard with no rear access?

Yes. We plan the route in at the quote visit and bring materials in by hand where we have to. It can add labour time, and we price that in the written quote.

What grows in deep shade under old trees?

Hostas, ferns, hellebores, native woodland perennials and groundcovers do well. We plant by hand to avoid cutting main roots.

Do I need a permit for a patio or retaining wall?

It depends on the size and the lot. We check the requirements for your property and tell you before work starts.
